At the CARD Sports Department, our mission is simple: cultivate a lifelong love of the game. We build safe, inclusive spaces where athletes of all ages and abilities come together to develop skills, celebrate teamwork, and strengthen the spirit of the Chico community. We're committed to upholding the integrity of the game, creating environments where recreational competition is respected, protected, and valued.

More than a game, we're a community. Our fields and gyms are gathering places where neighbors become teammates and a shared passion for sports and active living brings people together.

This is where a love of the game is born, nurtured, and shared. Find your league, find your passion, find your people, right here in the heart of Chico.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers to common questions about CARD

Youth & Adult Sports.

  • How do I register for programs or leagues?

Adult Sports register by team (excluding our Free Agent teams) and Youth Sports register by participant.

Secure your spot today by registering online at www.ChicoRec.gov. Because our programs are subject to field availability and staffing capacity, openings vary by season and fill quickly—early registration is highly encouraged. All divisions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and will close once they reach capacity or the deadline passes.

  • I don't have a team! How do I register as a free agent?

Don't have an Adult Sports team? No problem!

Visit our Free Agents page for more information.

  • Are game canceled due to weather?

While we prioritize playing every game, we occasionally must cancel due to weather, air quality, extreme heat, or field conditions.

    • Before 4:00 PM: We will notify Team Managers, email participants and update the game schedules directly.
    • After 4:00 PM: On-site staff and coordinators will determine cancellations as conditions arise. Should we be mid-game during a cancelation, we will notify Team Managers and email participants an update.

We understand that many teams travel significant distances to play; therefore, we strive to make these decisions as early as possible while balancing the goal of completing our season. Please note that rescheduled games may occur on different days, at different times, or at different locations than originally planned.

  • When is registration open?

All registration and details about deadlines are available online at www.ChicoRec.gov/athletics

  • How do I add a minor to my Adult Sports team?

While our league is primarily intended for players 18 and older, we do allow players as young as 16 to participate. To be eligible, the player must be able to compete safely with adults and cannot be playing in an age-restricted division.

If you meet these criteria, please complete the Youth Player Add/Delete Form, available in the Downloads section.

  • Where can I find the Adult Sports rules?

You can access rules in our Downloads section. Please note that CARD reserves the right to modify these rules to ensure the integrity of the league. All final decisions rest with CARD personnel to protect the interests of our players and to promote a genuine "love of the game" in a safe and fun environment.

  • How can I get text alerts?

Stay informed about upcoming deadlines and schedule changes by signing up for text alerts through Teamsideline. Click here to get started.

  • What does the Team Manager do?

An Adult Sports Team Manager, is more than just a point of contact; they are a vital partner with CARD. They are the "bridge" between the game and the sidelines, helping CARD create a high-quality, competitive, and respectful environment for our community. Click here for more information.

  • Where are games played?

Games are held at various CARD facilities and community partner locations throughout Chico. Please note that because field and gym space is limited, specific game days and times are subject to change based on facility availability.

  • How do I get a job at CARD?

All of our open positions are posted at www.ChicoRec.gov/jobs.  Please note that you must be at least 16 years of age to work for CARD, and some positions may require & specify a minimum age of 18 in the job posting.
